How would you classify your
music? Space Rock—Canterbury Style Do you all have ‘day jobs’ and if so
what do you do? I don’t like thinking about it! What was the first vehicle you ever
bought? The one I own now! Well actually I only own half of it. It’s my wife,
Mandy's car really. How important is commercial success
to you? Not as important as artistic success. If I wanted commercial success
above all else I wouldn’t play Space Rock! When you where a child what did you
want to be when you ‘grew-up’? I still am a child and will never grow up. My
wife says my 4 3/4 year old daughter is more grown up than me! But if I ever
do grow up I’d like to be a train driver. Do/did you get on with your parents?
Yes, but I’ll never forget the look of disappointment on my father’s face
when he asked me to show him a picture of my favourite adult-”someone I
admired”. I showed him a photo of Angus Young (lead guitar AC/DC) impaling
himself with his Gibson SG, vomiting blood! What do your children/family think of
your music/lifestyle? My daughter loves ‘school of rock’ with Jack Black, so
as long as I play the ‘smoke on water’ riff she’s happy! My wife introduced
me to early Ozric's, although I think she regrets it now! If a major label were to contact you
about a contract would you take/not take it and why? That’s impossible to
answer. It would depend on what the deal was! If it enabled us to concentrate
on playing music and didn’t stop us doing festivals etc. then yes. It would
be great to be able to pay the bills every month. I can’t imagine that a
major label would ever sign a Space Rock band that plays 25 min
instrumentals! It would almost certainly be a small label! Did the music come after you had the
musicians or did you know what you wanted in terms of sound and picked people
you knew would bring that thought to life? We have all played together in
bands over the past 18 years, whether it be the Ozric's, Damidge, Oligopoli
or the Thunderdogs. What we play comes naturally to us—we just go with the
flow. |
